University of Thessaly

Panepistimio Thessalias (University of Thessaly, UTH) is a Greek public research university with strong expertise in environmental sciences, agriculture, and ecosystem management. Its research addresses key challenges related to sustainable land use, soil health, and biodiversity conservation, with a particular focus on Mediterranean agroecosystems.

Role within ProPollSoil

Within ProPollSoil, UTH supports the synthesis of existing knowledge on soil–pollinator relationships, contributing insights relevant to Mediterranean and agricultural systems (WP2). By leading the Case Study Area (CSA) in the Nestos Delta, Greece, UTH is actively involved in pan-European monitoring activities, supporting harmonised field data collection and ecological interpretation across Case Study Areas (WP3). UTH further contributes to analyses that address key knowledge gaps on how soil conditions, agricultural practices, and environmental stressors affect pollinator biology (WP4). UTH plays a central role leading the Case Study Area approach, supporting the assessment of how soil management and contamination influence pollinator health under real-world farming conditions (WP5). Additionally, UTH contributes to threat analysis and the development of mitigation and management strategies that support healthy soils and resilient pollinator populations (WP6).
