Universidad de Murcia

Universidad de Murcia (UM) is a Spanish public research university with strong expertise in environmental sciences, ecology, and sustainable land-use systems, with a particular focus on Mediterranean environments. Its research addresses key challenges related to biodiversity conservation, soil management, and ecosystem resilience under changing climatic conditions.

Role within ProPollSoil

Within ProPollSoil, UM supports the synthesis of existing knowledge on soil–pollinator interactions, contributing perspectives relevant to Mediterranean and semi-arid environments (WP2) and is actively involved in pan-European monitoring activities, contributing to harmonised field data collection and analysis of soil and pollinator parameters (WP3). UM contributes to analyses addressing key knowledge gaps on how soil conditions, land-use intensity, and environmental stressors influence pollinator biology and functioning (WP4). UM coordinates the Spanish Case Study Area (CSA) in Murcia, where it leads local fieldwork, data collection, and stakeholder engagement to assess the impacts of soil management and agricultural practices on pollinator health (WP5). UM contributes to the integration of CSA and experimental results into broader threat analyses and modelling activities, supporting the development of evidence-based mitigation and management recommendations (WP6).
