Norwegian Institute for Nature Research

The Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) is Norway’s leading institute for applied ecological research. With over 300 interdisciplinary experts, NINA delivers science-based knowledge on biodiversity, climate change and sustainable land and resource management, supporting evidence-based policy and contributing to European and global sustainability goals.

Role within ProPollSoil

Within ProPollSoil, NINA supports the synthesis of existing knowledge on soil–pollinator relationships, contributing ecological and trait-based perspectives (WP2). NINA is actively involved in pan-European monitoring activities, contributing to the analysis of harmonised soil and pollinator data across contrasting environments (WP3). NINA plays a central role through its leadership of the Norwegian Case Study Area Hardangerfjord, coordinating fieldwork, data collection, and stakeholder engagement in boreal and coastal landscapes (WP5). NINA further coordinates threat analysis, modelling, and upscaling activities to assess how soil conditions, management practices, and environmental pressures affect pollinator populations, and to develop evidence-based mitigation and management recommendations (WP6).
